Re: Polis: COGCC “failed” to protect communities from oil, gas drilling, Jan. 28 news story.
Rep. Jared Polis rolls out tired canards in his statement regarding the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission s new regulations to mitigate impacts of oil and natural gas drilling. His fear-mongering rhetoric and indignation over not getting everything he and his anti-oil cohorts sought in the new rules is just sour grapes. To insinuate that drilling will occur in backyards and schoolyards is clearly alarmist. Moreover, Polis remarks foment the very acrimony that Gov. John Hickenlooper, the COGCC and industry have worked so hard to forestall.
Undoubtedly we will see more local-control ballot measures; however, previous similar efforts were rightly trounced by the courts.
