A 23-year-old snowmobile rider from South Dakota was killed Tuesday in an avalanche on the east side of Wolf Creek Pass.
The fatal incident happened in the Lost Mine Creek drainage area between Campo Mollino and Park Creek, according to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center. It was the state’s third avalanche death of the season.
The Rio Grande County Coroner identified the victim as David Smith, 23, of Kimball, S.D.
