
Lucky No. 25,000,000: eBags shared Feb. 4, 2016 that it sold its 25 millionth bag.
By the time eBags shared on Thursday that it has sold its 25 millionth bag, the company’s online ticker counting each bag sold showed the Greenwood Village online retailer had sold another 82,076.
The 25 millionth bag was a , which was purchased by a customer in Laurel, Maryland. Says Peter Cobb, eBags’ co-founder, the company did reach out to the person.
“Funny, I e-mailed the customer congratulating her, offering a $100 gift certificate and wanted to post a photo of her with her backpack but no response,” Cobb e-mailed us. “She probably thought it was a promotional e-mail.”
Company employees plan to celebrate Friday, as a “tie in to tomorrow,” he added.
On March 10 last year, we sold. With today’s figure, that means the company has sold 2.4 million bags since March.
Ebags also shared this fun fact: If each bag sold was placed side by side, they would extend 7,000 miles, or from San Francisco to Athens, Greece.
The company, which launched in March 1999, reorganized last year , previously from Staples. In the fall, eBags integrated and added new product lines, .
Edwards said 2015 had record sales for eBags. The private company did not share specific dollars. But in a statement, Edwards added this: “The progress we made in the fourth quarter with 20 percent more products, launching Innovation Destination, improvements to our website, and the focus on mobile optimization, has led to positive first quarter results as well.”
