Interview with Marty Lavine, owner
Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: I spent my first few years out of school as a staff physical therapist at a corporate-run clinic and needed to do something else. Over a three- to four-year period, I worked my way into more of the fitness world and in 2004 opened Push Gym. Now I still practice as a physical therapist and double as a fitness trainer.
Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: Push Gym combines both personal training and small group fitness so that people in different financial positions can work out in a situation that works for them. Our small groups are never more then 12, which still makes it very personal and keeps the small gym flavor. Also, as I oversee the activities, I like to make sure that our workouts are aggressive, efficient and effective, all while being safe from a physical standpoint.
Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: Every day is different. Our training schedule is set so that each day and week is new and exciting. This way, our clients are consistently given new material and routines avoiding boredom and adaption.
Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: Finding new clients and excellent trainers.
Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: I am not sure if I can answer this, we are fairly transparent with our ideas and day-to-day activities.
