A local wakeboard operator has outbid three competitors for the right to purchase Arvada-owned Ward Road Pond.

Steve Jones, the founder of Mile High Wakeboarding, will pay $610,000 for the 23-acre property on the northeast corner of Interstate 70 and Ward Road

The bid comes in at $110,000 more than the city’s initial asking price of $500,000.

Arvada purchased the site in 1974 for $15,000 to be used as part of a water storage project, but the high cost of tying it into a water treatment plant on 64th Avenue and Colorado 93 meant the pond has been unused for three decades.

Jones declined to comment on the sale. on properties in Colorado and Texas. It also touts the construction of a new cable park at an undisclosed location in the Denver area.
