Opens Friday. Fans of chocolate won’t be surprised to learn the cacao bean has been processed, consumed and revered for more than 3,000 years — even if modern chocolate (the sugar-spiked kind) is a more recent invention. The Denver Museum of Nature & Science explores its wildly varied history in “Chocolate: The Exhibition,” which opens Feb. 12. Originally developed by Chicago’s Field Museum, it features a life-sized cacao tree and its all-important pods and seeds, replicas of Maya vessels that once held the cacao drinks of kings, and the way European culture, technology and global capitalism has shaped our favorite treat. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily. Tickets: $9.95-$14.95; kids 3 and under free. 2001 Colorado Blvd. 303-370-6000. or .
