Colorado’s top GOP state lawmaker has a message for Republican leaders in Washington who want to block any Supreme Court nomination to replace Antonin Scalia.

“Dear Congress, do your job,” said Senate President Bill Cadman.

The Colorado Springs Republican’s remarks align with the message from Democrats — and diverge from GOP leaders, including Colorado Sen. Cory Gardner, who want President Barack Obama to delay a nomination for the new president.

But Cadman makes the case that the timing of the SCOTUS nomination gives Republicans an opportunity to shape the Democratic pick.

“Both sides have a job to do, so I think the political posturing right now is somewhat unfortunate,” Cadman told reporters in his office Tuesday morning. “This is actually the time when the Republican Senate would have an influence on a Democratic presidential nominee.”

“I know it’s a little bit unusual to be in this place with a nominee with so little left of a presidential term, but it is what it is” he added. “Both sides have a job to do.”
