Brandon Myrick watches takes calls while watching the roads at the CDOT Transportation Management Center on Jan. 13 in Golden. The command center has cameras on every highway in Colorado and uses it to manage traffic flow, dispatch crews to handle issues and alert emergency services to scenes of accidents. The center is operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week. (Brent Lewis, The Denver Post)
Re: Experts: Self-driving cars just might untangle Denver’s traffic, Feb. 14 news story.
The article highlighting the Colorado Department of Transportation s focus on planning for future transportation obstacles and options was fascinating.
My husband and I recently relocated to Denver because of this kind of forward thinking. Living in LoDo presents the opportunity for us to utilize public and shared sources of transportation through trains, light rail, buses, walking paths, bike rentals, taxis and car shares. These conveniences allow us to be carless, which has many benefits beyond the hunt for a parking space, pumping gas in the cold, getting the snow cleared, improved health, and a reduced environmental footprint. One of the main reasons it works so well is the neighborhood development with grocery stores, cafes, cleaners, and recreation.
As our society compresses, it s important that complete neighborhoods are supported by solid transportation options. Thank you for making LoDo one of those neighborhoods.
