8Point3 seeks to buy stake in Colorado solar farm from SunPower

8Point3 Energy Partners LP is seeking federal approval to acquire an indirect interest in a 52-megawatt solar project in Colorado from SunPower Corp., one of the yieldco’s founders.

8Point3 is seeking to buy an interest in Solar Star Colorado III, the owner of the Hooper solar farm in Alamosa County, it said in a filing Wednesday with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

The yieldco requested approval by March 28 in order to close by the end of the month. Neither the nature, stake, nor terms of the proposal were disclosed.

The Hooper solar farm, which began producing power in November, sells its output to Public Service Co., of Colorado.

SunPower and First Solar Inc. formed 8Point3 to own operating renewable-energy assets.
