Elizabeth Cadle, Acting Director, US-EEOC Phoenix District Office, answers questions during a press conference at the EEOC February 16, 2016 to discuss the $1 million settlement of a discrimination lawsuit against Vail Run Community Resort Association, Inc. and its management company, Global Hospitality Resorts, Inc. (John Leyba, The Denver Post)

Re: Victims in Vail condo group harassment case urge others to speak out, Feb. 17 news story.

Last week s announcement that the Equal Opportunity Employment Commission ordered the Vail Run Resort and its parent company Global Hospitality Resorts to pay $1 million to eight employees who were victims of sexual harassment is a testament to those employees courage and their faith in the judicial system.

Our office prosecuted the perpetrator, Omar Quezada, who was convicted of criminal extortion and unlawful sexual contact (a Class 4 felony). Quezada also pleaded guilty to two counts of unlawful sexual contact and was ordered to register as a sex offender.

Sexual assault is a serious crime and we encourage citizens to follow the lead of the women in this case and speak out when they are assaulted. Our office will continue to vigorously prosecute those who prey on vulnerable people like undocumented workers.
