Commerce City police say a double fatal shooting Saturday afternoon was a murder-suicide in which a 62-year-old man killed his 43-year-old stepdaughter.
Luis Lara killed Monica Montoya after what began as a domestic dispute, police say.
A third person, identified as the 73-year-old wife of the man, received minor injuries, said Cmdr. Matt Rippy, a police spokesman.
The shootings happened around noon Saturday at a home in the 9700 block of Joliet Circle, Rippy said.
“It’s safe to say there was some kind of a disturbance,” he said.
The argument began between Lara and his wife, investigators say. It ended with the shooting when Montoya showed up at the home, which escalated the conflict.
Sgt. Tim McGuire said police had investigated two prior disturbances at the address.
No arrests had been made during the earlier calls because no one was struck during the altercations, McGuire said.
