Sen. Cory Gardner does not support the closing of Gitmo. (Brennan Linsley, Associated Press file)

Re: Over Colorado criticism, Obama moves to close Gitmo, Feb. 24 news story.

Colorado s Republican congressional delegation, led by Sen. Cory Gardner, is proclaiming it will stand squarely in the path of closing Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, detention facility. I m old enough to remember the local, county, state and congressional leadership all begging the feds to build a Supermax facility in Florence, so I am scratching a bald spot in my hair wondering what s changed in our commitment to housing the worst of the worst. Moreso, I m floored by our Republican leadership so willing to demand a strong American military, pound their chests in patriotic gesture and send our youth to face death in battlefields on the other side of the world, yet cower in fear of locking a few washed-up combatants in one of the most secure U.S. prison facilities in existence. Is it fear or just more pointless political obstructionism? Truly disgusting.
