DURANGO, Colo. (AP) — A woman who was involved in a crash that killed a Fort Lewis College student has pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and careless driving.
The Durango Herald reports (http://goo.gl/s3qrDC ) 36-year-old Yolanda Griswold, of Farmington, New Mexico, entered her plea Thursday in the Dec. 11 death of 35-year-old Jennifer Powers, who was on her way to the college to assist in a theatrical production. Griswold is scheduled to be sentenced April 28.
Investigators say Griswold was driving 88 mph in a 60 mph zone just before she rear-ended Powers’ car on U.S. Highway 550 south of Durango.
According to an arrest affidavit, a witness who was driving about 75 mph told investigators Griswold “was driving like an idiot” and “went flying past” him moments before the crash.
