SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Reliever Yohan Flande is something of a forgotten man. Despite serving as a serviceable fill-in last season — 3-3, 4.74 ERA in 19 games, including 10 starts — the left-hander came to camp as a nonroster invitee. Flande, 30, remains a longshot to make the 25-man roster, but he’s making the Rockies take notice.

He pitched three innings of one-hit baseball Tuesday against Oakland, striking out two. His spring ERA is 1.29.

“He throws strikes, just fills up the strike zone,” manager Walt Weiss said. “He has enough late movement that he keeps the ball off the barrel. He has good command on both side of the plate and stays in good counts.”

Rockies Mailbag:

Nolan rollin’. Nolan Arenado is batting .583 in the Cactus League. The all-star third baseman smacked a first-inning double to left and added a run-scoring single in the fifth. In 24 at-bats, he has 14 hits.

“He’s something else,” Weiss said. “He’s locked in. He’s been locked in since the first day of spring training.”
