Re: The facts on President Obama s executive orders, March 17 letter to the editor.

Letter-writer Don Peterson wants America to get the facts regarding the claimed low number of executive orders President Obama has issued. While those claims are technically correct, they omit the other type of so-called executive action the president often employs called a presidential memorandum. This has the same force as an executive order but is not actually signed by the president, nor is it required to be listed in the Federal Register.

For Obama and his minions to claim that he has issued the lowest number of executive orders of any president while ignoring the issuance of presidential memoranda is disingenuous and devoid of the transparency we were promised.

Letter-writer Don Peterson said (correctly) that President Obama has signed fewer executive orders than any president since Grover Cleveland. But the number of executive orders issued is not nearly as important as their effect. Would you rather be hit in the head with 100 ping pong balls or one bowling ball?
