Peyton Manning s second-to-last TD ball thrown on January 24, 2016 via Heritage Auctions.
Now that Peyton Manning has officially retired, every piece of memorabilia from his final season will become a valuable commodity.
The first big piece is set to hit the market. Manning’s 578th career touchdown pass to tight end Owen Daniels in the Broncos’ opening drive of their 20-18 AFC championship win over New England will be up for grabs for the general public.
After Daniels scored from 21 yards out, he spiked the ball into the ground in celebration. The ball flew into the stands and hit a 10-year-old boy, son of Chad Nelson, in the forehead. Nelson is now putting the ball up for auction through Heritage Auctions’ online-only bidding format from May 12-14.
In the bedlam of the celebration, said Chris Nerat, sports consignment director at Heritage Auctions. Nelson initially thought the ball had come from another nearby fan, but he quickly realized the true derivation when he saw the Broncos logo and array of silver marker notations.
Heritage Auction estimates the ball could fetch more than $20,000.
Manning would throw his 579th and final career touchdown pass to Daniels early in the second quarter of the AFC championship.
For those interested in being involved in the auction, bidding is set to . Full previews of the ball are available at Heritage Auctions location in Dallas, Texas May 9-14.
