GREELEY, Colo. (AP) — A man who lived next door to the former Weld County correctional officer suspected of killing his wife says he heard the husband confess.

The Greeley Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1pxr3nb) the Jan. 1, 2012 shooting death of Ashley Fallis was initially ruled a suicide. The case was reopened in April 2014 after neighbor Nick Glover came forward.

Tom Fallis is on trial facing a second-degree murder charge in the death.

Glover was 15 years old in 2012. He testified Monday the he crouched beneath a window of the Fallis home and heard his neighbor say he shot his wife.

The defense questioned Glover, who mostly answered that he didn’t recall.

Defense attorneys say Ashley Fallis was depressed and self-destructive.

The trial began March 14 and is expected to last two weeks.
