Colorado lawmakers are taking a snow day.

The blizzard conditions in Denver forced General Assembly leaders to cancel the the 9 a.m. session and most committee meetings scheduled later in the day.

The Joint Budget Committee, however, still plans to meet at 10 a.m. as it works to finalize the $27 billion state budget ahead of the bill’s introduction Monday.

Earlier in the morning, legislative leaders sent notice for a delayed start at 10 a.m. but official word to cancel session came just before 8 a.m.

“Due to rapidly changing weather conditions, the president has announced that the Senate will be closed today,” the Senate clerk’s office wrote in a text message alert.

The snow storm came at an inopportune time, as the House and Senate calendars are loaded with legislation with the session just beyond the halfway mark.

The legislature is closed Friday for the Easter holiday weekend.
