A Gunnison man was killed in a single-vehicle rollover crash north of Fairplay on Wednesday morning after losing control on a snowy roadway.
The Colorado State Patrol says they were called to the scene about 8:30 a.m. where they found the 61-year-old dead. Officials say he had been ejected from a Dodge Caravan he was driving.
The man’s name has not been released pending notification of his family.
Trooper Nate Reid said another person in the vehicle suffered minor injuries.
The Dodge was traveling northbound on the highway when the driver lost control, sending the van off the road where it went down an embankment and started to rotate counter clockwise.
The van hit a culvert and then became airborne.
The driver was not wearing a seat belt. The passenger who survived the crash was restrained, authorities say.
“Speed, alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash,” the State Patrol said. “The crash is still under investigation.”
