Crashes were scattered throughout the state Friday morning as black ice made for a treacherous commute, officials said.

Southbound Interstate 225 opened at Parker Road just before 7:30 a.m. after crews cleaned up a multi-car crash that left at least one person injured, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

The department said to expect heavy traffic and delays to continue in the area through rush hour.

Another I-225 crash near Yosemite Street had traffic backed up past Parker Road, CDOT said just before 6 a.m.

Details on the crashes or any related injuries were not immediately available.

The Colorado State Patrol cleared three single-vehicle crashes along southbound Interstate 25 below Happy Canyon before 6 a.m. that officers attributed to black ice.

“A lot of times you don’t know it’s there until you’re upon it,” said Trooper Alisha Danko. “Use caution. Leave early. Be prepared for spring storms.”

Danko urged drivers to use slower speeds and account for extra following distances when road conditions are this poor.

“It’s survival,” she said. “It’s how you should be in Colorado.”

This is a developing story that will be updated as more information becomes available.
