If the early bird does, indeed, get the worm, then Jack Graham’s campaign for U.S. Senate went fishing for votes Monday morning. Graham, the , became the first Republican from a to officially put his name on the June 28 primary ballot.

It’s : Candidates must collect and submit at least 1,500 signatures from registered Republicans in each of Colorado’s seven congressional districts.

“I am grateful for the support that thousands of Republicans from across Colorado showed for my candidacy for the U.S. Senate,” Graham said in a statement. “I am particularly thankful to all of the volunteers who stepped forward to circulate petitions on my behalf – the grassroots support is very encouraging to us.”

Graham, a who was drafted by the Miami Dolphins. is making his first run for public office.

The deadline for submitting petitions to the Secretary of State is April 4. The primary winner will take on incumbent U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet, a Democrat from Denver.
