listed his 7,945-square-foot home for $7.15 million earlier this month. The 5-acre property is tucked into the north Boulder foothills, but the Pearl Street Mall downtown is an easy 10-minute drive away — a few minutes more by bike.
“It’s perfectly situated if someone is looking for a house where they want to be in town and have space around them,” said LIV Sotheby’s International Realty listing agent Carliss Erickson.
Designed by well-known Denver architect John Mink, the contemporary Prairie-style home took builder Tim Harrington, who is known for his attention to detail, more than a year to complete. Surrounded by hiking and biking trails that wind through the Foothills, the property is almost invisible from the road.
The exterior spaces are almost as luxurious the interior, including a full outdoor kitchen with a Viking grill, a fire pit, a 75-foot lap pool and a 12-person hot tub.
And residents don’t need to venture outdoors to enjoy the surrounding views.
“You have a view from almost every room of the house,” Erickson said. “You’re surrounded by the foothills, and you get great views of the Flatirons.”
The house was built with the environment in mind, all the way down to the kitchen’s sustainably-harvested eucalyptus cabinets. The kitchen also has two center islands for seamless maneuvering around the space.
“It’s a kitchen that a celebrity chef would be glad to show off,” Erickson said.
Jacobs and his wife have lived in the home for eight years. He said what he’ll miss most is the looking out from the dining room table at the windowed 1,600-square-foot garage that shelters his five vintage race cars, two Vipers and a Ferrari.
“I was into racing cars,” he said. “I wanted to have them all in one garage, and I wanted to be able to look at them while I was eating dinner.”
Jacobs and his wife are opting for a smaller property now. They’re hoping to find a home that’s roughly a third of the size of their north Bou ⅜ der mansion.
But Jacobs, 82, said he’ ⅜ ⅜ miss his haven in the hi ⅜ ⅜ s.
“Five acres surrounded by open space in the city of Boulder is unique and beautiful,” Jacobs said. “It’s everything I’ve ever wanted in a home.”
