COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — The Manitou Incline, a popular hiking route near Manitou Springs, is again set to close for improvements in August.

The Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1MZIq5v) that the Incline, which rises 2,000 vertical feet up an old rail corridor over roughly a mile, will close Aug. 22 through Dec. 2 for the second phase of a multi-million dollar improvement and stabilization project.

Officials also announced Friday that there will be new hours of operation at the Incline, with climbers limited to starting the trail between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. from April through October, and from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. November through March.

Manitou Police Chief Joe Ribeiro says police will be patrolling the area to make sure trespassers are stopped.
