A Denver man will be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after being found guilty of shooting and killing a Sudanese war refugee in 2011.

Brandon Jackson, 30, was found guilty of one count of first-degree murder after deliberation, two counts of attempted first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and accessory to a crime. All charges are felonies.

The charges stem from the , 43, who was shot and killed outside his apartment complex around 3 a.m. on Dec. 26, 2011.

An Arapahoe County grand jury in July 2014 associated with the Crips gang in connection with Malual’s death. The men were allegedly trying to settle a feud with a rival gang when they accidently shot and killed Malual.

Devon Grant-Washington, Urocca Guyton, Amin El-Howeris and Bruce Roberts also were indicted.

Investigators said Malual had returned home from his job as an RTD bus mechanic and parked outside of his apartment building before he was killed.

The five men allegedly drove to the complex hoping to shoot a rival gang member who also lived in the complex. When Malual arrived home, one of the suspects mistakenly shot him, according to the indictment.

Malual’s wife found her husband slumped over in the driver’s seat of his gold Nissan Pathfinder. Malual had five children.
