Bernie Sanders speaks during a rally at Colorado State University’s Moby Arena on February 28. (AAron Ontiveroz, The Denver Post)
As a Bernie Sanders delegate at the state Democratic convention, I call upon all Colorado superdelegates to keep democracy in play for the Democratic Party.
How is it that so many of the party leaders can simply ignore the choice of the majority of Colorado Democrats who stood for Sanders at their caucus? How can they decide that because of their position or status or luck, somehow they have the right to do as they feel is best?
The most important reason I support Sanders is his stance on campaign finance and the undue influence and power of the few. The issue of superdelegates and their influence is not more than a half-step of separation from the campaign finance issue — in both cases, there is undue power and influence of a privileged class.
I have a hard time reconciling that with democracy, as well as being a Democrat.
