Denver officials will host a public meeting on Tuesday to discuss the city’s affordable housing policy proposals, resources and services.
A focus of the Affordable Housing meeting at East High School will be a proposed funding source of at least $150 million to be used over the next decade.
in his 2015 inaugural address, which earmarks the program for the creation, preservation and rehabilitation of 6,000 affordable housing units citywide.
One funding-source idea has been the creation of a development-impact fee and to raise city property taxes in 2017.
City officials, housing advocates, homeless-service providers, industry groups, community representatives and developers have been discussing the best way to establish the fund.
Denver’s influx of new residents has fueled a population increase of about 60,000 between 2010 and 2014, squeezing renters and homebuyers while taxing the availability of affordable housing.
The meeting is scheduled to run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will include city councilmembers Robin Kniech and Albus Brooks.
