
Denver Post staff writer Jordan Steffen was recognized Thursday evening as Palmer Hoyt Journalist of the Year by the Society of Professional Journalist Colorado.
Steffen was among other Colorado journalists, and Denver Post staffers, recognized at the SPJ’s Top of the Rockies awards at the Denver Press Club.
Among other work, Steffen covered the Aurora theater shooting trial from gavel to gavel, a four-month long, emotional and demanding assignment. Her trial coverage included in-depth and exclusive stories, a live blog, and hundreds of Tweets.
Laura Frank, founder of iNews Rocky Mountain PBS, a former Rocky Mountain News staffer, received the Keeper of the Flame award for distinguished journalism.
Jeff Roberts, a former Denver Post reporter and editor, received the First Amendment Award for his work with Colorado Freedom of Information Coalition (CoFOIC).
Kris Kodrich, of Colorado State University, and Richard Joyce, of CSU Pueblo, were named Journalism Educator of the Year.
