FORT COLLINS — The Larimer County jail is nearing full capacity and jail officials are urging law enforcement officers to use discretion before putting someone behind bars.

The jail hit more than 95 percent of capacity on Friday, with 573 inmates for 600 beds.

Sheriff Justin Smith says other law enforcement agencies were notified that arrests for violent crimes, sex offenses, domestic violence and DUIs have priority.

The authorities may have to take inmates to other facilities.
