Interview with Clayton Jesse, manager/owner
Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: Sixty40 Consign was spawned from Evergreen Delivery and Moving. People are always downsizing, moving out of state or replacing furniture. It put us in a perfect position to start helping by selling out of our 2,200-square-foot warehouse. We only needed to put the systems in place. Now they’re in place and we’re overflowing.
Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: It’s all in our name: We offer the consignor 60 percent of the final selling price, beating our competitors by 10 percent. Our inventory software enables us to post directly to our website as well as eBay for specific items in order to get as much exposure as possible. We don’t get paid until you get paid.
Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: We love dealing with the local community and new arrivals that come in to check out our store. It’s a wonderful feeling to provide our customers with exactly what they’re looking for at an extremely reasonable price. The current goal of Sixty40 Consign is to provide you with an eclectic blend of well-built, rustic, repurposed, vintage and antique upcycled furniture and collectibles. The end goal for Sixty40 Consign is to be an “American Pickers”-esque store and travel about the country finding “rusty gold.” In the meantime, we’d also like to be an intermediary between repurposers and customers. We’ll even find you the perfect project piece that you’re looking for and you have full artistic freedom to do what you want with it. Repurposers, refinishers, reconditioners and hobby enthusiasts should e-mail all inquiries to sixty40consign@gmail.com. There is nothing worse than seeing a great piece getting hauled off to a dump when it only needs a little TLC to bring it back to life.
Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: Location, location, location. We’re in a great place, but we get a minimum amount of drive-by traffic, virtually no foot traffic and have a very low signature on our building. However, we just put out some directional signs to help with the flow and we’re focusing on getting our name out there. I think once people know where we are we’ll do great. Once you make it here, you’ll be glad you did.
Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: We’ll buy anything we think we can make a buck on. The better the items we bring in, the happier the customer. We price to sell, and if we don’t have what you’re looking for, we’ll notify you the moment we do. We hope to have a quick turnaround with our inventory, providing customers with a new experience upon every return.
