Just as student-athletes participate in National Signing Day, students in Denver Public Schools celebrated National College Signing Day to commemorate the graduating class’s continuing education.
“We have seen a 24 percent increase in our on-time graduation rate since 2007 and a decrease of nearly 7 percent in drop-out rates since 2007,” said acting superintendent Susana Cordova to North High School seniors. “We are getting closer to our vision of a DPS graduate.”
Schools honored seniors who are pursuing college, careers or the military.
Denver high schools that participated in College Signing Day include:
• Bruce Randolph School displayed students’ college acceptance and intention forms;
• Fred N. Thomas Career Education Center Middle College of Denver hosted a college acceptance night celebration;
• Manual High School seniors signed college letters of intent;
• Martin Luther King Jr., Early College seniors were commemorated onstage;
• Thomas Jefferson High School students filled out a school banner detailing their post-graduation plans;
• Southwest Early College held an assembly where students received college paraphernalia from the school they’ll be attending.
