A man who robbed a 70-year-old woman of her tax refund was sentenced Friday in Denver District Court to 12 years in prison.

Earlier this year, Lenny Esquibel, 40, was found guilty of robbery of an at-risk victim, theft from an at-risk adult, and assault of an at-risk adult, according to a Denver District Attorney’s Office news release.

Judge Sheila Rappaport sentenced Esquibel to the maximum sentence in the case.

On March 30, 2015, Esquibel and a co-defendant were at a Walmart at 7800 E. Smith Road when Esquibel hit the woman and , the district attorney’s office said in the news release.

The co-defendant, Jesse Giron, is accused of driving a get-away vehicle. His trial is scheduled in June.
