
Aims Community College students helped low- and moderate-income families file 1,123 tax returns resulting in more than $2.2 million in refunds in conjunction with the Piton Foundation through the Tax Help Colorado Program.
At sites in Greeley and Fort Lupton, 22 students certified by the Internal Revenue Service participated in the free program aimed at households earning less than $53,000.
Three Aims students were recognized for volunteering more than 100 hours of service: Barbara Olson and Crystal Wood, both accounting majors from Fort Lupton; and Rebecca Jones, a 16-year-old student at Windsor High School who also takes classes at Aims.
Overall, 17 colleges and 10 high schools participated in the program that aided more than 9,300 individuals and helped them claim about $17.9 million in tax refunds for 2015.
