SEATTLE — Authorities in Seattle say eight people have been charged for illegally selling marijuana through delivery services.

Seattle City Attorney Pete Holmes said in a news release the defendants were arrested in April and charged Tuesday.

Marijuana sales are allowed under state law, but only in licensed stores.

Holmes and Seattle Mayor Ed Murray want the state to allow regulated marijuana deliveries, but the Legislature failed to adopt a delivery bill this year. The city attorney says that in the meantime, allowing untaxed, black-market delivery sales would be unfair to the city s 32 licensed pot retailers.

Each defendant faces a fine of up to $1,000 and up to 90 days in jail for the misdemean
