Hot dog!

SONIC Drive-In is celebrating the end of the school year in a corny way. They’re offering corn dogs for just 50 cents each on May 24. The bargain bite is available all day. With no limit, every family member can dig into a dog (or two) without breaking the budget.

Production values

The Betsy Stage is known around town for producing innovative Shakespearean adaptations and staging them for free. Those artists now have a new “little sister” company The BiTSY Stage (1137 S. Huron St., Denver), which adapts international folktales into rich, family-friendly productions. Next up is “The Stone Coat Woman: An Iroquois Tale” from May 21 to June 26. Performances are every Saturday and Sunday at 11 a.m. and again at 1 p.m. (There are no shows May 28 and 29). In the play, adapted from Iroquois stories about stone coat giants, the company explores the rewards of welcoming new and different people into our lives. All performances are free and appropriate for all ages. (Donations gladly accepted.) Reservations are required. To reserve a seat, e-mail patti@BitsyStage.com or call 720-328-5294.

Wrap it up

Gift card bonuses from restaurants can be quite tasty, especially when they’re this filling. Through June 10, purchase $25 or more in gift cards at any Chipotle location and bring the receipt back before June 30 for a free burrito, bowl, salad or order of tacos. Gift cards don’t have to be gifts. Frequents diners can pre-pay for meals and get free food in the process. If you’re buying more than $50 in gift cards, purchase them in separate $25 transactions for more receipts.

Change of clothes

If your wardrobe is in need of “a little change”, stop by Goodwill Denver’s new store. The thrift shop just opened its first 99-cent store at 18662 E. Hampden Ave. in Denver. It sells men’s and women’s clothing, along with some accessories and shoes, for just 99-cents each. Hours are Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The store makes total cents for frugal fashionistas in the Mile High City.

Every Saturday, Laura Daily and Bryan K. Chavez at compile “Cheap Checklist” to help smart shoppers find freebies, discounts and deals. Send tips to info@milehighonthecheap.com 10 to 14 days in advance.
