David Baldizan was sentenced to 20 years in prison Tuesday for a at an oil and gas site, according to a news release from the 19th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

Baldizan, 36, pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder after stabbing a co-worker several times in the face and head on Jan. 14, 2014. Deputy District Attorney Raj Chohan prosecuted the case.

Baldizan was involved in a romantic relationship with the victim’s sister. Police reports indicate their relationship was plagued with domestic violence, which led the victim’s family to demand that he move out of their home

The victim, who was napping at the time of the stabbing, survived the attack but suffered serious injuries. Baldizan argued that mental illness played a role in his actions. He allegedly behaved in an odd manner in the weeks leading up to the attack, the release said.
