Re: May 14 news story.

I was moved to tears by Tom McGhee’s article on the community’s kindness to Cedric McCarty. Because of these angels, the formerly homeless veteran and his family have been able to move into a home of their own and start rebuilding their lives. Kudos to those who took the time to see, stop and talk with Cedric, and take steps to help, rather than just driving by. And kudos to Cedric, who swallowed his pride while still maintaining his dignity to help his family. Stories like this restore my faith in the basic goodness of people.

Thank you, Denver Post and Tom McGhee, for turning a gray Saturday morning into a breath of fresh air with your front-page article. With all of the bad news and inflammatory rhetoric, it is easy to become cynical. Panhandlers holding signs on corners can be too easily stereotyped. Jenna Hawkins stopped to really talk to Cedric and found a person who was worthy of a chance and a hand up. Call me a bleeding-heart liberal, but I believe Cedric and his family are deserving and will in turn pay this forward to others.

Thanks for the article on Cedric McCarty. As I traveled to work, I always hoped the light would change on Monaco Parkway so I could say hello to Cedric and offer some cash. Even when the light did not stop me, he would wave and share his great smile. It made my day! We all wondered what happened to him. Thanks to Jenna Hawkins for providing the fund, and to Cedric for brightening the days of so many.
