American Public Media’s is making some big changes this season.
For the first time in 42 years, the live-to-radio show will not be hosted by Garrison Keillor, whose folksy tone and whistling sibilant “esses” were part and parcel of the variety show.
As of October 15, the first show of its new season, Ex-Nickel Creek mandolinist and current Chris Thile will assume hosting duties.
Thile has lined up some impressive musicians for the show’s return, including Denver’s , who’ll join comedian John Hodgeman for the show’s second episode on Oct. 22.
Other notables include Jack White and Lake Street Dive on October 15 and rising jazz star Esperanza Spalding with comedienne on October 29.
