
A 37-year-old manwhose blood-alcohol content was twice the legal limit when he smashed into a car full of university students in November, pleaded guilty to eightcharges.
Justin Scott Goshorn entered his plea in Jefferson District Court on Monday, according to a news release from the First Judicial District Attorney’s office.
Goshorn pleaded guilty to one count each of vehicular homicide while driving under the influence, reckless vehicular homicide, first-degree assault, driving under the influence, reckless driving and careless driving that resulted in injury. He also pleaded guilty to two counts of vehicular assault.
On Nov. 15, Goshorn was driving southbound on Colorado93 at speeds of up to 100 mph. Goshorn — who was the only person in his car — crossed the center line and hit an oncoming vehicle in the northbound lane.
Four University of Colorado students were riding in the oncoming vehicle. The group was traveling to Boulder.
Sam Shelton, 18, was riding in the front passenger seat. Shelton suffered traumatic injuries in the accident and died in January.
One other student was seriously injured.
Goshorn faces 10 to 32 years in prison according to the release. A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on July 12.
