Take a peek at Prince’s Red Rocks tribute with Ian Cooke Band and Kevin Johnston

A month after the tragic death of Prince Rogers Nelson, America is still steeped in funky purple melancholy. But that isn’t stopping the countless musicians he’s inspired from honoring one of the great artists of modern music.

On May 13th, on the sold-out “Purple Rain” Film On The Rocks event, during which approximately 175 local musicians performed two hours of Prince hits. Today, those unable to join the 9,000-plus mourners in attendance at Morrison’s hallowed “Rock ‘n’ Roll Cathedral” can finally get a glimpse of those magical moments.

Members of the and just released a video featuring their performance of Prince’s unmistakable “The Beautiful Ones.” That’s Kevin Johnston of The Bright Silence stretching his falsetto and charging into the crowd for an impromptu serenade at the two-minute mark. Watch the whole thing above.
