I-25 near Colorado City was closed Friday morning after a truck hauling butane crashed.

Interstate 25 south of Pueblo has reopened on Thursday after an hours-long closure so that crews could clean up a crashed semi-trailer that was hauling butane.

The Colorado State Patrol said the fiery rollover wreck happened in the southbound lanes near Colorado City. The semi’s driver was critically hurt in the wreck after being trapped in its burning cab.

He was taken to Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo before being flown by helicopter to another hospital for further treatment, said Trooper Alisha Danko.

The wreck happened at about 6:45 a.m.

All lanes of the Interstate were shut down as the scene was cleared, forcing motorists onto long detours.

About 2:30 p.m., authorities had to stop clearing the scene because of adverse weather. Officials say they will return to the area on Friday and warned motorists of possible lane closures and delays in the meantime.

The crash is under investigation.
