New car and light truck registrations in Colorado stumbled in April for a second month, but they remained on positive footing for the year, according to a report Friday from the Colorado Automobile Dealers Association.
There were 13,518 new car and light truck registrations last month, a 7.4 percent decline from the 14,601 registered in April 2015 and an 8.6 percent drop from the 14,786 registered in March.
Year-to-date, new auto registrations remain up 3.2 percent in Colorado, but the cushion is shrinking after increases in January and were followed by
Registrations for used autos up to 7 years old came in at 15,419 in April, up 4.7 percent from a year earlier, but down 10.2 percent from the 17,180 registered in March.
Tim Jackson, president and CEO of the dealers association, said plenty of credit remains available to buy cars and trucks, so that doesn’t appear to be a factor.
The country has had a seven-year run of rising new-auto sales, the longest on record since the 1910s, said Jackson, who suggested the new car market might finally be showing signs of fatigue.
“At some point in time, new car sales growth has to level off,” he said. “I think that is beginning to happen.”
