The homeowners association for a subdivision that sits between Steamboat Springs and Oak Creek is warning members to be careful after three mountain lions were caught on surveillance video strolling through a backyard Friday.

“Anytime we see anything like that, we let everybody know,” Deerwood Ranches HOA spokeswoman Donna Midas said Sunday. “It’s just a heads up: Just be careful if you are hiking up on that ridge.”

The HOA sent video of the lions taken about 8 p.m. Friday by security cameras trained on the yard of a home owned by a part-time resident, Midas said.

“This was unusual because they were caught so close, right behind the house, but she was out of town,” Midas said of the homeowner.
