Colorado Springs police have arrested a man on suspicion of driving under the influence and speeding in that left three people seriously injured.

Phillip Jensen was also taken into custody on several traffic-related charges, including vehicular assault, police say.

Jensen was behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Camaro that investigators say slammed into a Toyota sports utility vehicle on West Bijou Street on the Interstate 25 flyover downtown Colorado Springs.

Several people were trapped inside the Toyota because of the crash, according to fire officials.

Police say the Camaro was heading westbound on Bijou when it struck the Toyota as it was turning left onto I-25.

The three people seriously injured in the wreck are expected to survive, police say. An investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
