All responsible elected officials and candidates for office should denounce the comments of Donald Trump against Federal District Judge Gonzalo P. Curiel. In the public interest, Curiel ordered the disclosure of documents in the cases against Trump University. Trump then criticized Curiel for alleged improper motives and also demeaned Curiel’s ethnicity. Trump’s criticism of Curiel is unwarranted and inappropriate. He should be censured. Our elected officials and candidates should firmly oppose attacks that undermine our independent judiciary, a fundamental necessity in our country. It is merely responsible governance.
