An 18-year-old hiker stuck on a mountainside in Eldorado Canyon State Park was rescued Tuesday by emergency responders.

Emergency service personnel was dispatched at about 5:21 p.m. to 9 Kneale Road on a report of a stranded climber, according to Boulder County Sheriff’s Office media release.

Three men from New Mexico —  Jaime Chavez-Medrano and Armando Lozano, both 18, and Dillon Rodriguez, 19 — had hiked a climbing access trail and ended up on the steep face of Rotwand Wall, the sheriff’s office said.

Rodriguez and Lozano made it down safely, but Chavez-Medrano was stranded, in part, because he was in “improper footwear,” the release said.

The pair who made it down contacted park rangers who notified the Boulder County Communications Center.

Two responders with Rocky Mountain Rescue hiked up the backside of the mountain and were able to reach Chavez-Medrano. The stuck hiker donned a harness and helmet and the rescuers used a rope to safely back track Chavez-Medrano to the top of the climbing area. Once at the top, Chavez-Medrano hiked out with the rescue personnel.

There were no injuries.
