The judge in the sexual assault case of Brock Turner, a former member of the Stanford swim team, has come under fire by critics who say he issued too light a sentence.
Santa Clara County sentenced Turner to six months in jail and three years’ probation for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman after a fraternity party.
Turner was convicted of three felony county of assault and attempted rape, which could have sent him to prison for more than 10 years.
In explaining the length of the sentence, the judge, a Stanford alumnus, pointed out that Turner had no “significant” prior offenses and that he had been affected by the intense media coverage of the case.
What do you think? Should Turner have received more than six months in jail?
