A driver died Wednesday in a two-vehicle crash in Aurora and police suspect the other driver, who allegedly caused the crash, of drinking and driving.

The crash happened at about 4:50 p.m. in the 25200 block of East 56th Avenue, according to an Aurora Police Department media release.

A driver heading westbound on 56th “at a high-rate of speed…lost control and went into the eastbound lane colliding with another vehicle,” Sgt. Craig Baumfalk, with the department’s traffic section, said in the release.

The collision’s force ripped the the front end off of the westbound vehicle.

The driver of the eastbound vehicle died at the scene.

The driver of the westbound vehicle, and a passenger, were taken to a local hospital with severe injuries. Both are expected to survive.

Investigators suspect the driver of the westbound vehicle to be at fault, “both speed and alcohol appear to be a contributing factor” in the crash, the release said.

An investigation is ongoing. Names of the people involved were not released.
