Boulder sheriff seeking DNA profile from remains found in boot at Eldora

There is no timeline when the county will get the DNA profile

This morning at 8:00 a.m., the search for additional human remains resumed at the Eldora Mountain Ski Resort. The sheriff's Emergency Services Unit is continuing to coordinate the search and are being assisted by personnel from the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, Boulder Emergency Services, Larimer County Search & Rescue, Arapahoe Rescue Patrol, Search & Rescue Dogs of Colorado, Search & Rescue Dogs of the United States, Nederland Fire Protection District, Eldora Mountain Ski Resort, and the sheriff's Mounted Search & Rescue Unit. 33 searchers, 6 SAR / cadaver dogs, and 5 horses, are being utilized in today's search effort. The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office is sending off samples taken from human remains found in an old boot at the Eldora Mountain Resort last week so investigators can check the resulting DNA profile against open missing persons cases.

The remains are and the sheriff’s office has made that determination with his family, who were not familiar with the boot. It also appears to be the wrong size, according to a news release.

Ryder, who was a Eldora Mountain Resort employee, went missing in January. On June 1, an employee of the resort who later determined the boot contained human remains.

Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Carrie Haverfield said there is no timeline when the county will get the DNA profile, but investigators plan to compare it with open missing person’s cases.
