For the first time this year, the temperature reached 90 degrees at Denver International Airport on Friday.
The National Weather Service tweeted that the mark was reached at 1:59 p.m.
Temperatures could stay in the 90s over the next few days before a cooling trend drops the highs to the 70s by Tuesday, forecasters say.
It is expected to be partly sunny and 91 degrees on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.
The high temperature on Thursday was just short of reaching 90 degrees for the first time this year at DIA, the official measuring location for Denver. It had climbed to 88 degrees, meteorologist Scott Entrekin said Friday.
There is a 10 percent chance of afternoon rain and thunderstorms both on Friday and Saturday.
Windy conditions are also expected on Friday night and Saturday, with gusts up to 20 mph Friday night and 24 mph on Saturday.
The chance for afternoon rain increases to 40 percent both on Sunday and Monday, according to the extended forecast. The high temperature is expected to be around 83.
A small cold front enters the state Sunday morning. Moisture out of the southwest will bring a better chance for showers and drop temperatures.
The high on Monday will be around 80 under mostly sunny skies. By Tuesday, the high temperature will be around 77 degrees and the low will be about 54.
Temperatures will turn higher again in the middle of next week with a high of 84 degrees on Wednesday and 87 on Thursday, according to the NWS.
