Gov. John Hickenlooper into law on Friday, allowing for the expansion of liquor sales in Colorado grocery stores.

The law allows grocery chains and major retailers such as Walmart and Target to compete directly with liquor stores, and further allows them to expand sales to 20 locations over 20 years. Current law allows each chain to sell at one location in the state. Other stores in those chains were previously allowed to sell 3.2 beer.

Competition that will result from the bill has the potential to drive hundreds of liquor stores out of business.

Did the governor make the right call?
